arizona and the governor s race that. just in the last few minutes, we received the latest drop of ballots from maricopa county. democrat katie hobbs has held on to her solid lead, while republican kari lake s chance to cut into that lead, into that gap, have narrowed. election denying lake wanted at least 55% of that vote to hold out hope of being in the game. which only managed 54%. we ll keep an eye on that race. it s a big race. now, one key to democrats aren t performing in these midterms was young voters. according to nbc exit polling, the biggest lead they had with any age group was with those under 29 years old. 63% of voters aged between 18 and 29 aligned with the democratic party in these midterms. that percentage is even higher when
interest dissipated. obviously, that seems to have been misplaced. but what does the data tell us so far? how do democrats press ford on this political advantage? do they put more balloting issues out there that would codify roe v. wade, for instance? yeah. so obviously still sifting through the data. there are a ton of states and races that we need more information on. we know from exit polling that states like michigan, pennsylvania, it was a top issue with the economy. and pennsylvania even came people said there is more of a priority. inflation is totally different from what democrats thought going into this election. so some of the exit polls, that was on voter s minds. especially the crucial independent, you know, independent women, the swing voters who do decide very close
talk about the latinos. fewer numbers than many had anticipated, making up 12% of those who voted instead of 20% both parties estimated would come out. according to nbc exit polling of those who did, 62% backed catherine cortez masto. how was she able to do that? she is the first and only latina ever on the senate. she made a real effort, as i said earlier, to appeal to the hispanic community. adam laxalt at times during the election bragged that he had 50% of the latino vote. and they made a real commitment on spacial language media never seen in this state by republicans outside groups like the club for growth spent seven figures on spanish language tv radio and digital. and they made a real effort.
