the dust has settled a bit from last night s election that saw a narrow victory by democrat andy beshear in the kentucky governor s race. his opponent matt bevin hasn t conceded. democrats in virginia took control of both houses at the state legislature. with all of this mostly in the books the big question is what does it mean for 2020? who voted and from where? some of it s hard to tell because we don t have exit polling from either kentucky or virginia. we do know one potentially key thing, the democrats won in the suburbs. i want to talk about it with terry mcauliffe, former governor of virginia and former republican presidential candidate and former senator rick santorum. he s a cnn senior political commentator. senator santorum, when you see the gains democrats made last night, particularly in the suburbs, does it tell us anything? do republicans have a suburban
massive midterm election wins. exit polling in fact found that 41% of voters said it was a top concern. now health care is resurfacing as a critical topic in the 2020 presidential race with joe biden and elizabeth warren trading attacks over the senator s medicare for all plan. joining me, ali vitali and also colonel belcher. and look who is in studio. hello, ali. you ve been covering this back and forth. has the warren campaign responded to biden s latest elitist remarks? no, and i doubt that they will. this whole dust up tells me, one, that vice president joe biden is more than willing to go at elizabeth warren on this issue of health care. they clearly think that this is a battle that looks good on him. but he is also not the first person to come at her as elitist. you look back to 2012 when she ran against scott brown, elitist was one of the attacks that he
this is your opportunity. you re not saying that candidate is me. go to corybooker.com tonight and endorse. in a piece in essence magazine, you say what we need to understand right now as a party is every successful struggle for justice in america, not to mention every winning democratic coalition in modern times has included the active participation and engagement of black people. in particular, they have included black women, who in recent elections have been engaged more and vote at higher rates than the national average. cnn s exit polling for 2018 midterms confirms that showing black women voted democratic at a rate of 92%. a new poll of polls for the democratic race finds former vice president joe biden leading the pack at 28%. you re significantly behind that. what s your plan to get some more substantial momentum? well, remember at this point in 2007, barack obama was behind in african-american voters to hillary clinton, 21 points
corporate greed. in 2016 blue collar factory workers helped president trump narrowly win the state of michigan and secure the white house. democrats have historically done well with unions. union leadership tends to support them, but the last election, the exit polling showed that president trump picked up union households in a way that few republican presidential candidates have in recent times. democrats are trying to convince the workers that voted for trump last time, especially those on strike right now that neither the president nor his party really understands them like democrats do. that with the trade war and plant closures, president trump hasn t kept his promises to them. we ve spoken to some workers on strike right now who say they feel that that has been the case, that president trump may have tried to do something them, but has not delivered to date. the most vocal supporters who supported the trump in 2016 and are union workers still tell us they re standing by president
pete, we will start with you there. i see some votes been counted, but i m told the final outcome is in doubt by everybody. and, like in the last election in april, it was close at this hour, as well. yeah, eyes glued to the television in israel. too close to call, because all of the initial accounts are based on exit polling. the results will be certified today. one thing i will say, it is close at the top of the polls. bibi netanyahu has done better once the votes certified the media here, no friend of him but similar to president trump faces in the united states. the media here are very bibi netanyahu left-wing and so we ve had to deal with the face of that as well as other charges but ultimately, the united states has had no better friend than bibi netanyahu. i ve even seen campaign with bibi netanyahu throughout jerusalem, so that this election is about him. the security situation has been great under the last ten years for him. there is a lot of internal
