very easy to go from country to country, whether it s plane, train, bus, car. what are they doing to find them? absolutely. remember this attack has actually happened now over six, seven hours ago. where can you be in six or seven hours in the paris metro region? you could be in another country. if you were smart you probably had a plane ticket and you probably got on a plane and took off. it s another possibility that they could be sitting in an apartment complex in a neighboring city waiting for the police to show up and having some sort of terrible conclusion kind of what you said before but essentially, if these were professionals and this was a professional hit any way you cut it they probably had an exit strategy. whether that exit strategy means they ll go out in a blaze of glory or if they blended in and disappeared, it s still up for grabs. what about that exit strategy? because anyone i talk to they
so why do we hear a different message out of the white house? well, i think just because of the political consequences of saying that we re in open-ended war with no exit strategy. and they could point, you know, our military when it s given specific targets, has effectively destroyed them. but we haven t won any major victories, taken back any ground, not in syria, not in iraq, and of course that border is meaningless to isis. we haven t really, you know, hit them in mosul. we haven t taken back mosul. we haven t taken back anbar. look at korea, look at vietnam, look at iraq. we just don t do well with wars we don t win. the key words here, haven t taken back. because we had it then we lost it. christian whiton, thank you very much. merry christmas to you.
dollars a year. congress has legislation spending on cybersecurity which has not been approved. they do. that s true. even with that ind coukind of legislation, it s a major challenge and companies are reluctant to call out whether it be china or north korea because they don t want to be a bigger target. our country has to figure out what we are going to do about it. they don t want to expose the fact that they have been cyberattacked. one other thing we ll have to pay attention to in 2015 is the fact that we have troops back in iraq. jim just reported yesterday, 1300 more troops. and that is potentially a real mess what is going on and we haven t covered it as in depth in the last few weeks. we re kind of fighting alongside iran, one of our enemies, and it s really unclear how this is going to play out especially with iran working with the shiite militias in iraq. what is going to happen over there? is there an exit strategy?
from vietnam. you have a clear mission. use overwhelming force to accomplish that mission and you have a clear exit strategy. you can t have overwhelming force if you say we re not going to have boots on the ground. we re either doing it or we re not doing it. and congress, by the way, has to be part of this. only congress can declare war. i taught con law at west point. congress wants to point the responsibility on this, they have to be part of this. boy, they vl. they have. it s shameful. right. and the president has to make sure they do it. all right, taking the hill airs live from arlington national cemetery this sunday on msnbc. gold star families going to be there. it s going to be a special show. wow. thanks, joe. appreciate it. what a great thing you re doing. patrick murphy, thank you so much. we ll be watching that. still ahead, why there s new cause of concern with just hours to go before a possible government shutdown. elizabeth warren and those democr
