they ll be very happy with that. well, other republicans, particularly some, you know, can t call them moderates. people like john mccain and lindsey graham in the senate, don t want to be known for blowing up government. and they don t like this. they have been very upset about ted cruz leading them down this path without any exit strategy. and so these parties are you know, factions are at war with each other and john boehner is caught between them. and he s going to have to make a hard decision before midnight, october 17th. right. and i don t know how i don t know i put it. which republicans and they become i think the hero to a large part of the problem. david corn, thank you very much for being here. sure thing. coming up, our republican member of congress will have the opportunity to respond to the president s remarks. and later in the hour, speaker boehner himself with a statement and we ll bring that to you live.
they canter exert leverage again. i think what is going on, along with what he said, there s talk of whether or not you can t roll this up into the debt ceiling argument as well, where the president has been willing to negotiate in the past. you get some sort of sequester as a leverage. you get some sort of budget reblican side. and then maybe something smaller on health care that satisfies those who have been pushing to fund. that s the strategy that paul ryan and some of the other house leaders would like to get to as an exit strategy if they can. it takes two things. one, the president has to negotiate. if he doesn t negotiate, you can t get to these kinds of k e negotiati negotiations. two, you have the ted cruz faction, which is basically saying we won t negotiate either over anything except obama care. what is the exit strategy that the cruzzites are saying? here s our end game, here s
that he was going to stop rubbing their faces in it and all that, then nothing happened, so it really sort of played with their heads. i think finally what s going to happen, whether it hams immediately or whether it happens in mid-october, there s going to be the search for some sort of face saver, some sort of way to stop playing cognitive dissonan dissonance, stop being the nasty guy and give them something they can claim as a victory, the republicans. this face saving in hard line negotiations is normally what we talk about doing international relations, what you have to do whenl you re dealing with the head of another state, another government, and you have to give them some room. we actually have just seen president obama manage with some deftness that question of syria on what it felt like everybody was boxed in and there were no exit strategy, in fact, generating some exit strategies and some alliances with people like putin, who you wouldn t think those alliances would be
