The F-22 Raptor's story is marked by its unmatched combat capabilities overshadowed by strategic and budgetary constraints, limiting its role in U.S. air power and leading to its early production halt in 2011.

Selling the F-22 Raptor to Israel will ensure that the U.S. will have the capability to remain in a fight longer against its rivals and defeat them.

China may not fear American technology or hardware, but the air service still deployed its F-22 Raptors, operated by the 199th and 19th Fighter Squadrons, back to Kadena in late March.  

As the first stealth fighter jet in history, the F-22 Raptor revolutionized airpower. The fifth-generation fighter combined stealth with unparalleled air superiority capabilities. 

Despite interest from key U.S. allies like Australia, Israel, and Japan, the F-22 Raptor was never sold abroad, primarily due to concerns over protecting its advanced technological secrets and maintaining regional military balances.

Most impressively, the F-22 was the first fighter jet to incorporate stealth technology. In the increasingly contested airspace over modern battlefields, stealth has become completely essential. And for an air superiority fighter, like the F-22, to perform its mandated function, it must be able to survive in contested air space long enough to make that air space uncontested. 

The F-22 is faster than the F-35 – MACH 2.2 versus MACH 1.6 for the Lightning II. The F-22 is 30 percent heavier, but it may be more maneuverable due to its Pratt & Whitney F119 engines providing more thrust (70,000 pounds) than the single Pratt & Whitney F-135 engine on the F-35.

The Air Force declined to say whether anyone was disciplined for the incident.

Without congressional intervention, the Air Force's ability toconduct air superiority missions will be increasingly at risk overthe next three decades.
