OPINION | DRIVETIME MAHATMA Work is progressing on rough stretch of U.S. 70 outside of Brinkley

Dear Mahatma: Once again I speak for Arkansans appalled and alarmed at the treacherous and dangerous portion of U.S. 70, six miles from Brinkley to Braswell. U.S. 70 is a major artery between Memphis and Little Rock for those who want to avoid congestion and trucks on Interstate 40. Deterioration, erosion and uneven lanes make it extremely hazardous! "Road construction" signs have been in place for months, possibly years, but there is no evidence of improvement. -- Dagmar Girl

OPINION|DRIVETIME MAHATMA: Updates in the works for I-630

Dear High Priest of Asphalt Distribution: Kudos to ArDot for smooth asphalt resurfacing of several lanes and exits and entrances on Interstate 430! Sure wish theyd do something similar to Interstate 630. Its a teeth-rattling ride endured by thousands daily. I know much work is dependent on the massive Interstate 30 project but this small section could sure stand some attention in the interim. -- Shaken-Up Joe

DRIVETIME MAHATMA| Help is on the way for pesky pothole on North University

Dear Mahatma: Please don't tell me the always wet pothole between H and Evergreen on North University is a result of unmet specifications. I think it's been there since Forest Heights had open air hallways! It's horrible at best and worse when the temperature is below freezing. I've called 311 twice. What's the holdup on fixing that tooth rattler? -- Mr. Lee

Don't fret, fellow drivers, many are a little lost in a roundabout way

Dear Mahatma: After reading your column last week, I couldn't help but think of the Kingston Trio's song about "poor old Charlie" riding on the whatever line. He was the man who never returned! My wife and I were on a roundabout in Conway. After several hours we finally achieved some sort of embarrassing exit and barely made it to the next gas station. -- John

Drivetime Mahatma Closed U.S. 70 rest stop won't reopen, officials say

Dear Master of the Highways: Would you please contact your friends in our illustrious Arkansas Department of Transportation and ask them why they would spend millions of dollars to fix up U.S. 70 between Benton and Hot Springs and then close the rest area? Scads of people, many of them tourists, pass that way each day and, like myself, would like the opportunity for a bathroom stop or to enjoy a picnic. -- Murfreesboro
