In Germany, migrant workers perform essential labor in the meat industry. They are also subjected to prejudice, abuse, and neglect.

Truck drivers who were striking in Gräfenhausen, Germany, brought their collective action to a successful conclusion on Friday (September 29). In a historic victory the drivers will receive money owed to them and Polish consortium Lukmaz, Agmaz and Imperia has agreed to forfeit legal action against them.  

A brutal military-style attack by a Polish private militia on striking truck drivers from Eastern Europe sheds a harsh light on the slave-like conditions under which thousands of long-distance truck drivers work in this industry.

The number of Polish haulers moving their operations to Germany as the EU Mobility Package and Polish tax reforms kick in is rising. But many say the deluge that was expected is unlikely to materialize.
