The Helias Crusaders, the Blair Oaks Falcons, the Southern Boone Eagles and the Tipton Cardinals will each begin the postseason as state-ranked teams in this week’s Missouri Media Rankings, which were released Monday night.

The Blair Oaks Falcons and the Helias Crusaders held onto their spots in this week’s Missouri Media Football Rankings released Monday night.

It may have been only a Week 2 matchup, but Friday night at the Falcon Athletic Complex resembled more of a state playoff game than a typical non-conference contest. The Lutheran North Crusaders made minimal mistakes, scored the game’s first two touchdowns and kept the Blair Oaks Falcons at arm’s length the rest of the way. The Crusaders held on for a 38-30 victory, winning for the first time in four tries against the Falcons.

The Blair Oaks defense has risen to the occasion the past two times it has played the Lutheran North Crusaders. In the Class 3 state quarterfinals in 2020, the Falcons held the Crusader offense out of the end zone for the first time since Sept. 5, 2009, using a dominant second-half performance to win 44-9. Last season, Blair Oaks handed Lutheran North a 35-0 loss, its first shutout defeat since that same 2009 game against Westminster Christian.

Sam Wyrick is getting ready for his time in the starting lineup. Wyrick, a senior, will start at quarterback this season. He has served as the primary backup in recent seasons and played in seven games as a junior. But he’s No. 1 this season and that means a lot more time on the field at practice.
