Two suspects wanted in connection with a series of cash-in-transit robberies were shot and killed by police in Verulam on Saturday.

Stop Farm Murders organisation said what it has gathered from victims of farm attacks is that perpetrators want money, and think there is money stashed on farm properties they target.

Though FF Plus leader Pieter Groenewald argued that the farming community was critical to the country’s economy and needed to be protected.

Criminal intent and socio-economic desperation rather than racial hatred are behind many farm attacks in South Africa.

This follows a number of deadly attacks in provinces, including Limpopo and the Western Cape, over the weekend.

Former Springbok hooker Lukas van Biljon has been stabbed during a robbery at his family farm in the Free State, while his 70-year-old father was shot and wounded.



AfriForum says its concerned that theres been no significant decrease in farm attacks between the first quarter of last year and the first quarter of this year.

Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for a farmworker who allegedly stabbed a farmer who had fired him a few days prior. 



AfriForum says it could turn to the courts in an effort to broaden the scope of powers granted to farmers and neighbourhood watch groups to keep communities safe.

AfriForum believes the decline in farm murders in 2022 was to due to underreporting.
