The crisis in NHS dentistry has been brewing for years, with some Brits forced to pull out their own teeth. One even went to war-stricken Ukraine because it was half the price of paying privately.

The poll included 6,343 responses from 4,429 households in England and was commissioned by the Governments Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.

It follows reports from Faversham, in Kent, where last month a practice received 27,000 calls for just 60 NHS slots. In May, a practice in Kings Lynn saw queues of more than 300 people form from 4am.

Faversham Smiles, which is in the Kent town, also received 27,000 calls from people desperate to access the subsidised services hours after it opened the NHS slots

The practice, based in Faversham, Kent announced it has also introduced a rolling waiting list, so it can contact people who werent able to secure an NHS appointment.
