live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. that is the sound of the biggest storm to sweep through the bay area in more than a year. good evening. i m eric thomas. the storm has caused widespread damage. trees have come down in every part of the bay area. power lines are also down. thousands of pg&e customers are in the dark right now. slippery roads made for treacherous conditions. chp responded to more than double their usual calls. the heavy rain started this afternoon, but just in the past couple of hours, the brunt of the rain really hit. team coverage tonight of this major storm starting with abc 7 meteorologist drew tuma. we knew this storm would be wet and windy. the storm moved onshore in the early afternoon. heavy rain, strong winds. the good news, live doppler 7 d hd. the winds have calmed down. the heaviest of the rain has pushed off to the east. we re dealing with residual effects of this rain. this one 50 is starting in sonoma county north

in the south bay, 200 homes and businesses are without power this morning. highway 12 remains closed west of sonoma due to downed power lines. flood waters that inundated highway 12 and 121 are receding. 12 remains shutdown until pg&e crews can repair the downed wires. we ll keep you updated throughout the morning on the status of highway 12. this morning traffic moving again on stony point road in cotati after crews worked to fill a growing sinkhole, rains over well overwhelmed a drainage culvert the water washed away ground under the pavement, crews installed metal plates. the santa cruz town of felton cleaning up. the san lorenzo river reached four feet over flood stage. 40 families in the community of felton grove had to leave their homes. dan and liz say they did get advanced warning that the river was rising fast. first it was an advisory only. then it became mandatory as it was clear the river was going to come up. streets in felton were from six inches to fo

holding. terry mcsweeney is live in palo alto with the latest. reporter: good news about the creek. it is going didn t even in the past half hour it is going down even in the past half hour since our last report dropping, good news for the people here, the result of the rise last night because of the rainwater resulted in a number of evacuations. last night flooding began at the four seasons hotel in palo alto, 101 at university avenue exit, at one point the chp was escorting cars past there evacuates, hunts in the garden subdivision in east palo alto had to be hundreds in the garden subdivision in east palo alto had to be escorted out, no rain overnight, no rain now, this creek is going down. there s a long term plan to stop this from happening as often. we have a lot of work to do at this creek. picture water droplets on the camera all morning, not raining per se out there and there are so few cars on the road as long as everyone takes their time and moves along, [ inaudible ] this morning, good news and worrisome news along the creek that divides palo alto and east palo alto. good news is the water level has dropped significantly from yesterday s peak this is a live look at the creek from the palo alto side. last night, that creek was much higher as it drained storm runoff from the san mateo county highlands to the san francisco bay. the worrisome news is the swift water may have caused damage to the left vies along to the levees along its banks. last night the creek topped over its banks and flowed on to highway 101, water made its way into east. after s garden subdivision flooding some garages. evacuations were order, hundreds of residents headed for higher ground to be safe. evacuations were lifted overnight. napa river has crested below flood stage and r

California mountain communities prepare for possible weekend power outages and flooding

Officials are preparing for a Flood Watch that is set to begin on Sunday morning and go into Wednesday for low-lying areas like Felton Grove. For those up in areas like Boulder Creek, downed trees and power outages are of utmost concern.

Work continues to restore power, open roads in Santa Cruz Mountains

As of Wednesday, several thousand PG&E customers were still without power in the Santa Cruz mountains, but PG&E expected to have the power back on by 10 p.m. Thursday.
