On Sunday, June 25 close to 150 people attended a special French Mass and  re-enactment ceremony for Maine Acadian Day and is held in honor of the Acadians landing and settling in Madawaska. The event was sponsored by the Madawaska and Grand Isle Historical Societies with help from the Acadian Festival Committee and the Maine Acadian Heritage Council.

Sgt. Bryan Cyr, son of Roger and Louisanne Cyr, received the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in combat on June 12 at the Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Maj. Gen. Tom Drew presented the award.

Phil Cyr was in high school when his father, a potato farmer, opened the Caribou Nursing Home in 1973 and began building a family dynasty.

In my last column I discussed the differences between the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay Colony and the Pilgrims of Plymouth. Millions of Americans descend from these Protestant settlers and quite often have ancestors from both colonies. You probably do if your ancestors were here in New England in the 17th or 18th century. 

Pilgrims. Puritans. Did your ancestors number among them and is there a difference? Even Henry Louis Gates on Finding Your Roots once told a Mayflower descendant they had Puritan ancestors.
