The death sentence of eight former Indian Navy officials has been commuted by a court in Qatar., World News, Times Now

In a huge relief, an appellate court in Qatar has commuted the death sentence of eight former Indian Navy personnel, arrested in an alleged case of espionage in August 2022.

In the case of Indians in Qatari Custody, the Court of Appeal of Qatar has announced its verdict in the Dahra Global case, where the sentences of the accused have been lowered. 

The verdict comes as a diplomatic win for India, weeks after PM Narendra Modi met Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of the COP28 summit

India previously vowed to secure the release of ex-navy personnel.

The Ministry of External Affair (MEA) on Thursday said that India has noted the Dahra Global case verdict in which the sentences of eight former Indian Navy personnel on death row have been reduced.

Qatar has reportedly reduced the death sentence of ex-Indian navy officials on death row to a jail term, announced the MEA.
