First Word War News Today

For a national day of celebration, Australia Day has had a varied, higgledy-piggledy and divisive history. In this, it echoes Australia itself and so provides a useful lens for reflecting on our national life. By Andrew Hamilton

IN Glasgow’s Riverside Museum stands a remarkable engine with a long and celebrated history.

King Charles appeared in high spirits yesterday afternoon as he joined his brothers Prince Edward and Prince Andrew for a pheasant shoot in the grounds of the Windsor estate.

King Charles led a two-minute silence that took place across the UK and laid the first wreath in front of the Cenotaph in London, where a major policing operation remains in place today.

The King will lead todays event to mark the end of the First World War, which will also see members of the Royal Family and senior politicians lay wreaths at the base of the war memorial.

The Princess of Wales, 41, appeared at the Cenotaph in Whitehall for a service to commemorate fallen soldiers on Remembrance Sunday 2023.
