The thing that gives me a bit of solace as I mourn Tim Marcum is that I hold his passing with high importance.

It was on May 7th, 2012 that Arena Football League Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz received unanimous approval for a five-year contract extension that would keep him on the job through nearly the end of the decade. It is on May 7th, 2013 that he should step down from his post and let someone else try to direct this league back on the path of success.

In 2013 Nathan Dorton borrowed $65 from his dad and created his own pair of football gloves. That small investment led to the creation of the sports apparel company Phenom Elite which has grown steadily over the years.

With a win on Saturday over the Arizona Rattlers, Dan Raudabaugh will certainly be able to put himself in a class with Nick Davila, Aaron Garcia, and the rest of the greats in this game, but a loss, and he'll probably go back to just being another one of those quarterbacks who puts up great numbers.

It only appears to have taken some time, but silently the Chicago Rush are putting together one of the best offenses in the AFL. Going into week five, the Rush were averaging 63.3 points per game, which ranks them as the second highest scoring offense in the league behind Philadelphia.

Perhaps the Arizona Rattlers toughest opponent on June 14 was complacency. HONOLULU --The sun may have set on beautiful Waikiki Beach on Tuesday, but this was merely the calm before the storm for AFL China. On Wednesday, players from all across the country congregated in Honolulu, and it officially signals the beginning of perhaps the most influential time in the history of the sport of arena football.

In a game where they scored their fewest points of the season, turned the ball over five times, were successful on only half of their third and fourth down conversions, and had their starting quarterback sacked four times in less than a half, there is still one positive that can be taken away from this game. The Chicago Rush will be healthy going into the 2011 Arena Football League Playoffs.

There was a ton of offense. There was a little bit of defense. There was some Ironman football. And there was that crazy bounce that can only happen in the Arena Football League. Yes, old school arena football might have died years ago, but on Sunday night, two of the best in the history of the game put in an old school fight, as the Arizona Rattlers knocked off the San Jose SaberCats 59-49.

When was the last time San Jose found itself victorious in the postseason? July 12, 2008. Certainly deep within the AFL's past when it comes to a historically rich franchise like the SaberCats.
