Police say a high school student visiting a North Carolina community college shot himself in the hand, sparking an hourslong campus lockdown.

A Forsyth Tech student recalls the moment when a reported shooting happened on campus while he and his classmates were inside a class with dangerous chemicals.

The parents of a South Carolina child who died have been arrested after authorities say he had enough Benadryl in his system to kill a man, officials say.

Shannon Howard James Pitts of Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, on a field trip at Forsyth Technical Community College, shot himself in the hand, leading to a lockdown of the school and a massive police response, Winston-Salem police said.

The report in question came from the Forsyth Tech Community College at the city of Winston-Salem at aroind 10:10 a.m., prompting police officers to rush to the scene.

Darius Taylor, a Forsyth Technical Community student in North Carolina, spoke about the lockdown Thursday morning.

Police later tweeted that there was no active shooter on campus, but there was still an active investigation.
