Police are investigating shots fired at Forsyth Tech in North Carolina earlier Thursday morning.

Ralph Ricciardi wasted no time heading to Forsyth Technical Community College Thursday morning when he learned that his wife, an instructor at the school, was hiding under a desk in a dark room.

Students are being released from a North Carolina community college campus after a lockdown that followed reports of a shooting.

Officers have confirmed that there were reports fired at Forsyth Tech, a community college in North Carolina.

“Campus is closed and all classes are canceled for the remainder of the week at all locations,” the school said.

Students received a text alert about 10:15 a.m., saying there was a report of shots being fired.

Winston-Salem Police responded to reports of shots fired at the Strickland Center at Forsyth Technical Community College this morning. Police say the shooting was reported at 10:10 a.m. and that officers are on the scene and assisting. The department later confirmed that there is no active shooter on the campus of Forsyth Tech.

The Mt. Tabor High School student was on a field trip to Forsyth Tech Community College. He told his mom he was in the bathroom when he heard the gunshot.

Winston-Salem police tweeted that they received a report of a shooting at Forsyth Tech around 10:10 a.m. At a press conference at 3 p.m., Captain Shelly Lovejoy told reporters there was never an “active shooter situation.”  

WXII employee Darius Taylor was inside the Strickland Center when he and his classmates got the alert that read, “Report of shots fired at the Strickland Center. Shelter in place."
