More than a hundred Calgarians are making their opinions on the city’s housing strategy known Thursday — as a proposed plan to create more housing and improve affordability hangs in the balance.

Construction of housing starts in Calgary have increased by about 20 per cent since the beginning of the year, according to the Canada Mortgage and Hosing Corporation's latest report, and industry experts say it's a good sign for the economy.

The strategy is an attempt to consolidate the city’s many policies that fall under the climate umbrella.

Inaction on climate mitigation would carry a greater price tag, said City of Calgary climate change and environment manager Dick Ebersohn.
