There are nearly 1,000 students unaccounted for in Winston-Salem /Forsyth county schools. A lot of kids went unaccounted for during the pandemic.

HCA Healthcare is trying to have a lawsuit dismissed. A western North Carolina town is keeping its social district in place. A man is heading to prison for his role in stealing nearly three-dozen guns in Asheville.

The school district hired a company to help them find students who have not enrolled. Theyll discuss their initiative at news conference on Thursday.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has been awarded a $382,300 grant from the state to identify and locate students who haven’t been showing up to class.  In the beginning weeks of the last school year, there were 531 students that could not be located or accounted for in the district. When students are unable to be found within the first 20 days, they’re considered a dropout and reported to the state. 

The dropout rate in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools decreased from 2019-2020 to 2020-21 but remains among the highest of the state’s urban school districts, the school board learned Tuesday.

Superintendent Tricia McManus said the district is focusing on prevention, intervention and security

Masks will be required in Winston-Salem Forsyth county schools for at least another month until the requirement is revisited again.
