Freebies Issue News Today

Supreme Court freebies hearing: The Supreme Court said that there can be no denying that in an electoral democracy, the true power lies with the electorate and the electorate judges the parties and candidates.

RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Member Ashima Goyal said that a cost is imposed somewhere when governments provide freebies, but this is worth incurring for public goods and services that build capacity.

RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary in a tweet took a dig at CJI NV Ramana and asked, "What freebies does the CJI get?". The remarks came after the Supreme Court said electoral freebies was a serious issue but it cannot ban political parties for it.
