Downed timber is always part of the game in the spring on Roaring Fork Valley trails and roads. It appears to be worse this year because of persistent winds.
Local resident and avid backcountry skier Murray Cunningham has been leading Powder Tours off the backside of Aspen Mountain for more than three decades. He turned 70 this spring and is retiring as director of the tours at the Aspen Skiing Company this month.
Castle Creek Road outside of Aspen has reopened after it closed due to a wildfire. The fire was “contained but not controlled” as of about 4:15 p.m. Sunday, according to Jake Andersen, the deputy chief of operations for Aspen Fire Department.
