Metro Police Sergeant Richard Strader says this is a singlevehicle accident. At about 1 30 this morning, the 2003 mazda protege was speeding westbound on owens, and was attempting to make a right turn north onto pecos. The male driver lost control of the vehicle on the turn, and crashed into a utility pole here. Strader says the clerk at the nearby 7 11 ran outside, saw the driver was still alive, and attempted to remove him from the car. The Fire Department eventually had to extricate the driver. And strader says the driver died at umc. Were up to ten traffic fatalities already this year. And strader says thats not a good start.
