The school board also voted to ask the federal court to approve a future division of the school zone for South Shades Crest Elementary and Brocks Gap Intermediate into two separate K-5 school zones.

The proposal is to rezone the planned Everlee community from Deer Valley Elementary to South Shades Crest Elementary and Brocks Gap Intermediate School, and to eventually make South Shades Crest and Brocks Gap both K-5 schools.

Miss Hoover Mary-Coker Green started a campaign called “Flip the Switch” to try to change the way people view mental illness and help people dealing with stress and trauma.

Over the decades, the Bluff Park School went through several expansions and by 1988 had grown to 32 classrooms, a cafeteria that doubled as an auditorium, a kitchen and a library.

Both women have backgrounds in education, and Tosney is the current school board president seeking reappointment.
