Trinity College of Arts & Sciences has adopted a new curriculum that will reshape the academic experience of its undergraduate students beginning in Fall 2025, following an April 4 vote by faculty representatives.

The psychological impact of discrimination, the economics of marrying your cousin, fossil fuel economies in South Asia and the Mississippi Delta, quantum algorithms, how Black intellectuals shared ideas through the British empire, the organization of political parties and more. "Our new faculty are not only among the world's brightest minds, but they are individuals driven by a passion for enriching the lives of our students," says Dean Gary G. Bennett.

Four faculty in the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences were recently recognized by the Arts & Sciences Council for outstanding achievements in undergraduate teaching.

Four new distinguished professorships carrying the names of celebrated individuals from Duke’s history have been created in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. The honorary titles — also called distinguished chairs — are awarded to faculty whose work has been transformative by reshaping thinking in a field or opening up a new area of scholarship. Gary G. Bennett, an award-winning instructor and scholar of health behavior, began his term as dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences on Feb. 1. In an inaugural message to Trinity faculty and staff, he reflected on how the college is uniquely prepared to meet the challenges facing higher education – and to lead the way for others – as a consistently excellent academic community.

Marie Lynn Miranda, former provost of the University of Notre Dame, has been named chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Gary G. Bennett, a behavioral scientist and leader in undergraduate education at Duke, has been appointed dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, Provost Sally Kornbluth announced Tuesday.
