Solar panels and wind turbines, now projected to produce 44% of Americas electricity by 2050, present cybersecurity challenges. They have sensors, controllers, actuators or inverters that are directly or indirectly connected to the internet. Theyre distributed far and wide across the country and the countryside. Many have insecure connectivity to legacy electric grid systems. They have complex physics. Theyre subject to advanced persistent threats. And there will be more and more of them going o...

Iowa State engineers have developed tools to help secure renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind farms, against cyber attacks.

Solar panels and wind turbines, which are expected to generate 44% of America’s electricity by 2050, pose a cybersecurity risk.

Iowa State engineers are leading a team developing cybersecurity systems that prevent, detect and mitigate attacks on renewable sources sending power to the gri
