A veteran Michigan court officer was shot to death while serving an eviction notice on the day of his mother and sisters funeral after they died in a house fire. 

A man has been charged in connection with the death of a St. Clair County court officer in Clay Township.

A criminal complaint identified the victim as Robert Silver, who worked for the county for 35 years.

While on patrol on Feb. 4, Clay Township police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for defective equipment in the area of Marsh Road and Mill Street, according to a police report.

One person was taken into custody following a brief standoff.
