The West Central Tribune earned first place in sports reporting and special sections; plus second place in general reporting and use of photography as whole and numerous individual awards in the MNA Better Newspaper Contest for 2020-21.

The Tribune won in several categories, including general excellence, reporting, advertising, photography, design, sports, multimedia and more. As a special note, Annie Granlund (nee Harman), who got her start in journalism as a high school columnist for the Tribune, won three awards for her work at the Owatonna newspaper.
