Prison Journal, Volume 2

Books    >    Biography-Memoir    >    Historical    >    Prison Journal, Volume 2 Paperback Innocent! That final verdict came after George Cardinal Pell endured a grueling four years of accusations, investigations, trials, public humiliations, and more than a year of imprisonment after being convicted by an Australian court of a crime he did not commit. Led off to jail in handcuffs, following his sentencing on March 13, 2019, the 78-year-old Australian prelate began what was meant to be six years in jail for historical sexual assault offenses . Cardinal Pell endured more than thirteen months in solitary confinement, before the Australian High Court voted 7-0 to overturn his original convictions. His victory over injustice was not just personal, but one for the entire Catholic Church.

Pell says year in jail was a time of grace and gift – Catholic World Report

Cardinal George Pell. Credit: Alexey Gotovskiy/CNA Washington, D.C. Newsroom, Dec 18, 2020 / 02:00 pm (CNA).- Cardinal George Pell discussed the surprises, difficulties, and “gift” of everyday life in jail during a press conference this week to mark the publication of the first installment of his prison diaries. Pell described his stint in prison as a sort of “spiritual retreat,” which he wrote about in his daily journal of incarceration, set to be published in three volumes. The first volume: Prison Journal, Volume 1: the Cardinal Makes His Appeal, was published Dec. 9. During his 404 days in prison for crimes for which he was eventually acquitted, Pell said he kept the diary as a “historical record of a strange time,” and that he hoped that it would one day be published as a help to others going through hard times.

VATICAN Card Pell: At Christmas I pray for the prisoners, for last year I was one too

by Card. George Pell In this intense meditation, Card. George Pell speaks of his Christmas in prison, without Mass and without the Eucharist. Prayer for those in prison for a just punishment, or because they are persecuted from a religious or social point of view. Christmas is the exaltation of the monotheism of Judaism, Islam and Christianity, but only the latter celebrates Emmanuel, God with us. The wheel of eternal return is broken and Jesus indicates the end of time, in heaven, where there are no prisons, no prisoners, no Covid . Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Covid19 has brought disease and death to the world during the last year (but not as many as we had feared), almost stopped international travel, damaged and diminished business activity.  So we are celebrating Christmas this year at a bad time, although it is not the worst of times.  We have no World War raging, no great famines, and we have these new vaccines which promise that the disease can be curbed and controlled.
