Work to repair and modernize the Capitola wharf is moving along on schedule. The wharf was severely damaged during last winter’s storm which knocked out a huge section of the pier back in January.

It was a huge honor to host Rep. Jimmy Panetta last Friday at our "ground breaking” for the wharf.

The damage is a daily reminder of the destruction from this year's storms. An iconic landmark, unrecognizable.

The $7.7 million project aims to restore the Capitola Wharf, an 855-foot-long landmark that dates back to 1857.

In a major rebirth for the seaside town whose economy depends on tourism and the beach, construction crews are set to begin work next week on a $7.7 million project to rebuild and reopen the wharf.

Work will strengthen and enlarge landmark structure, popular with tourists and locals for generations

A small group of community volunteers looking to raise private funds dedicated to manifesting enhanced Capitola Wharf facilities say they are halfway to reaching their goal. The Capitola Wharf Enhancement Project has secured $125,000 of its $250,000 goal in banked funds and pledges since the campaign's soft launch in early June.

Thursday, Capitola City Council is expected to give a final approval to the Wharf Enhancement Project, this brought about by a concerned community group, raising funds to make added improvements.

Heavy rain and strong wind at the beginning of 2023 ravaged Capitola Village and more than a month later, residents are still picking up the pieces. 

There are currently 461,960 people without power as California reels from the aftermath of the torrent. But the lull is only expected to be short - with Pacific storms lined up to wreak more havoc.
