A construction worker killed in Cambridge Wednesday when a section of concrete stairwell collapsed was identified Thursday as a 56-year-old man from South Windsor, Conn.
Christopher Stuck was apparently removing metal railings from a fourth-floor stairway inside a city-owned parking garage when the stairway collapsed, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Cambridge Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney, and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard Jr. said in a joint statement.

Show Transcript TODD: IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDST OF A CONSTRUCTION PRODUCT PROJECT. THE STAIRWELL WAS BEING RESTORED WHEN THE COLLAPSE HAPPENED. TONIGHT, THE CAUSE IS STILL UNCLEAR. UPON ARRIVAL, FIRE COMPANIES DISCOVERED INTERIOR COLLAPSE OF THE STAIRWAY. TODD: MEDICAL EXAMINER’S VANS LEFT THE SCENE THIS MORNING. A 56-YEAR-OLD CONSTRUCTION WORKER IS DEAD AND HIS COWORKER IS INJURED. THE COLLAPSE HAPPENED JUST BEFORE 8:30 THIS MORNING INSIDE A STAIRWELL ON THE SECOND STREET SIDE OF THIS PARKING GARAGE OWNED BY THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE. The construction worker killed Wednesday when a stairwell collapsed in a Cambridge parking garage has been identified by authorities as a Connecticut man.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, Cambridge Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville Bard, Jr. have identified the fatal victim from the construction site located at First Street Garage in East Cambridge as Christopher Stuck, 56 of South Windsor, Connecticut.
At roughly 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office were notified by the Cambridge police of a fatal incident at a construction site.
