City planner Jason Stewart said the building that housed a thrift store and vinyl truck liner business will be razed to make way for the restaurant.
City Manager John Klimm said the city council approved the site plan with the stipulation that no left turns be allowed from the restaurant and a right-turn-only traffic control lane be added exiting the site.
“General public reaction has been positive,” to the new restaurant, Klimm said. Based on comments on social media, the public has always favored new sit-down restaurants in Rincon. Jenny Stalnaker said she expects about half of the business at the new restaurant to come from the drive-thrus with the other half coming from dining room sales.
The city of Rincon is planning a weeklong spring fair with rides and food booths and public school students are planning proms and graduations.
The events are drawing positive comments on social media from people who are weary of restrictions caused by the coronavirus.
The director of the Coastal Health District questions the prudence of such events when four Effingham County residents died with the virus last week and community spread remains high.
Attendees at the fair, April 2-11 at Freedom Park, will be asked to wear masks and there will be hand sanitizing stations at each ride and throughout the park.
Egypt is a 1-year-old brown tabby that’s available for adoption from the Effingham County animal shelter.
“She’s very affectionate and she’s very pretty,” said shelter Director Lorna Shelton. “She has beautiful green eyes and she likes attention.”
Also up for adoption this week is Abby, a 3-year-old lab-retriever mix. “She’s very sweet and calm,” Shelton said. “She’d make a great family pet.” She is being treated for heartworms.
The adoption fee is $60 for cats and $75 for dogs and includes spaying or neutering and basic shots.

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Friday who was wanted in a domestic dispute involving a gun and possibly a gunshot.
William Anthony Taylor, 34, is charged with felony fleeing to elude and numerous drug and weapons charges, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Gena Sullivan.
Deputies got a call at 8:30 a.m. that a man involved in a domestic dispute had left the residence in a blue Tahoe. They spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver fled, leading deputies on a chase.
He eventually crashed on Meldrim Road and U.S. Highway 80 and fled on foot. Deputies set up a perimeter and called for K9 and a drone to assist in the search.
