there was a shortage of answers from the president s supreme court nominee. kavanaugh declaring no one is above the law during a 12-hour session of the senate judiciary committee. he did not want to answer explosive questions from democrats about the man who nominated him. can a sitting president be required to respond to a subpoena? so that s a hypothetical question. president trump claims he has an absolute right to pardon himself. does he? that s a hypothetical question that i can t begin to answer in this context as a sitting judge. it is common practice for judicial nominees to say they cannot answer questions about cases that may come before them. that is going back to ginsberg. this is a critical issue with the robert mueller investigation. judge kavanaugh tried to clarify
then they get on the court and all of the sudden they have a bent. it s b.s., and we both know it. but the party in power allows it. and so the system continues. but you would agree that this is both sides. i mean, this is the 100%. the ginsberg playbook. the gorsuch playbook zp the only one who didn t follow it was bork, and that s why he got dinged, because he was too honest. and that s why they say nothing. so you have kavanaugh with all this stuff written and now he says well, that s what i believed in 1998. well, i don t really know that i can take a position on it now. i may come up with a case like that. yeah, you might. that s why they re asking you whether or not a president can be investigated. rudy, don t you think that s an important question from this judge? shouldn t he have to say whether he thinks the president should be investigated? i believe these things should be more substantive, but i m not a fool, chris. i know it s not going to happen because as so
that s what they would want. you know, britt is right. kavanaugh came so well prepared to talk about the nominee precedent, just quoting democratic nominee after democratic no me and how they conducted themselves in the chair, whether it s kagan, ginsberg, talking about the things he didn t have to answer because they didn t either. very effective. i ve never seen a nominee so well-prepared. alternately able to bore us and charm us and bore us and charm us. incredibly effective. i do think that amy klobuchar from minnesota is not running for president. she was roguely going from case to case trying to speed up through her list as it was a routine checklist of things she had to get through. what the best minds here on the democratic side want to do and senator coons up now might do this, senator cory booker was 16edding out fund-raising
finance violation, then what? what are the repercussions? because if you think about the average american out there, why should they care about this? these are the rules by which we all play. rules are pretty clear. stephanie, if you re running for office, which by the way, i don t recommend you do. what would they say about me? you d be wonderful. it s the institution i m concerned about. i m limited in the am of money i can give you. and you have to file an accurate and honest campaign report. those are the rules. so if i m giving moun on your behalf to someone else or you re filing false campaign reports, that s a violation of federal criminal fall law. by the way, what mr. ginsberg says is spot on. i spent hundreds of hours listening to tapes. sometimes you can t make out a word or two or sentence or two. transcript is not evidence. evidence is the tape. but the evidence this is really important is also the
sotomayor, this kind of mind can bring these arguments together and help make the difference and get decisions that everyone can relate to and appreciate. that s the kind of person we need at this point. i think that s right. it s a brave thing to do. thank you both. a new york city councilman. he was arrested while protesting the nomination of judge kavanaugh. he joins us next up.
