The Mendocino National Forest plans to initiate prescribed fire operations this Friday at the Red Bluff Recreation Area as part of a multi-agency effort to reduce wildfire risk and restore native grasses and plants at the recreation area.

The lightning-caused Slide Fire has reportedly grown to 289 acres overnight, the Mendocino National Forest announced late Wednesday morning.

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call came in on Friday about an injured man and three children floating down a river in the Red Bluff area.

Firefighters from the CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit were busy working an early Saturday fire involving a travel trailer in the south Corning area.

CAL FIRE and Sierra Pacific Industries are planning to burn 85-acres on Wednesday.
