With 16 days of activism against gender-based violence coming into effect today, the campaign reminds survivors of gender-based violence and femicide of the permanent scars of being violated. The campaign was started in 1991 by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute, and it is used as an organising strategy by individuals and organisations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children.
