Students will participate in a two-day workshop with artist DJ Shub to help create a song that will be featured at the music festival.

The fourth Wake the Giant music festival drew thousands to Thunder Bay’s waterfront on Saturday for an event that mixed world-beating headliners with local talent and a focus on welcoming Indigenous youth to the city.

The Wake the Giant initiative supports Indigenous students who travel to Thunder Bay to attend school. It's goal is to make the city a more welcoming place.  Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School teacher Greg Chomut, who is one of the festival organizers, said 150 DFC students were among the attendees. 

A new exhibit at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery mixes work by some of the country’s most celebrated Indigenous artists with pieces by students at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, and it’s not necessarily obvious at first glance which is which.

Students with the Dennis Franklin Cromarty high school media club landed a big interview Wednesday — actor Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds told a school radio club if he is part of a successful bid to buy the Ottawa Senators, his fandom for the team will reach unexpected heights.

The school's media club reached out to the Deadpool actor and he agreed to speak to them for about half an hour on Wednesday.

The Wake the Giant Music festival will light up the waterfront once again. Organizers say the event that celebrates inclusivity and Indigenous culture will make a loud return to the stage on September 17. The lineup for the event was announced on Friday on the waterfront. Greg Chomut is an organizer for Wake the Giant and he spoke with the CBC's Mary-Jean Cormier.

One-day concert will take place on Sept. 17 at Marina Park.
