Tourism Diversity Matters terminated the employment of Executive Director Greg DeShields following widespread accusations of a toxic work environment, and founding CEO Mike Gamble has stepped down from his role in the organization.

Leading players in the tourism sector have outlined Artificial Intelligence (AI); Immersive Experiences and Passion-based Travel as the three key trends that will shape the sector in 2024 as travellers look for authentic connection and deeper engagement.

The meetings and events industry has seen a heightened focus on conversations and initiatives surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) in recent years, and while there is undeniable progress in DEIB to be proud of, there still exists several barriers ahead.  The reality is that BIPOC talent and leadership is underrepresented across the industry, and destinations are gearing up for the year ahead in hopes of continuing to make positive change. 

As the meetings and events industry evolves at a rapid clip, staying up to date with the changes is less daunting when you have trailblazers leading the way. Whether it be through providing resources for ensuring inclusivity, educating colleagues on the importance of accessibility or planning events that push the envelope, it’s because of these individuals that the industry constantly grows.
