Travis McMichael, 36, and his father, Gregory McMichael, 66, are already serving life sentences after being found guilty in a state trial for the 2020 murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

A federal judge in Georgia has sentenced two men to life in prison and a third to 35 years for racially motivated federal hate crimes related to the 2020 murder of 25-year-old African American Ahmaud Arbery.

Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and their neighbour William Bryan were convicted of violating the civil rights of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old African-American man.

The three men convicted of murder in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery face life in prison, with a judge deciding only on the possibility of parole.

The trio of men convicted of the killing of Ahmaud Abery, a 25-year-old Black man out for a jog at the time, are set to be sentenced next month.

Vice President Kamala Harris praised Ahmaud Arbery's killers being found guilty by a jury but cautioned more change was needed in the justice system.

Travis McMichael, who shot Ahmaud Arbery, his father Gregory McMichael, and their neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan, who took part in the chase, were all convicted of multiple counts of murder, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.

Actor Viola Davis tweeted to Ahmaud Arbery's mother, 'Your son mattered. His life mattered. I pray this brings you a tiny shred of peace.'

Now that the three men have been convicted in Ahmaud Arbery's death, sentencing awaits and appeals are almost certain.
