A total of 102 newly built homes sold in Bloomington-Normal last year. That's $34 million in new property value created in the community to meet demand, according to figures from the Mid-Illinois Association of Realtors. And it's more than twice the amount of new home construction in 2020. Early signs are this year will be even better.

The Normal Town Council on Monday approved plans to expand three of the town’s subdivisions, paving the way for nearly 70 new home constructions.

The Town of Normal has formulated a new way to choose whether, which, and how to place art in public spaces. The town has supported public art for decades, but recently, a controversy over a mural in uptown prompted staff to re-examine the process to make it more intentional.

AP For the first time in years substantial numbers of new homes are being built in Bloomington-Normal. Most of the new housing development in Normal is happening closer to the edges of town than filling in or redeveloping areas closer to existing neighborhoods.
