For the past few weeks, the idea of the town purchasing the building at 1500 Union St. for a community center has evolved.

Meadow Commons, which is under construction on the Berlin Turnpike, will include stores, restaurants and 79 townhouses as well as an unnamed grocery store.

The plaza was 20% vacant when it was acquired by a Massachusetts developer in 2019. Additional lease announcements are planned for Q1 2023.

The retail store Old Navy will be moving into into a 12,500-square-foot space at JFK Plaza in Waterville. No opening date has been announced.
