More and more, homeowners are keeping the lights on using their electric vehicles during power outages

MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. — In early March, strong winds brought down trees and power lines in the Nashville area, leaving thousands of homes without power. But about 20 miles outside the city an electric pickup truck fed energy to John and Rachelle Reigards home, keeping their lights on.

Homeowners are beginning to turn their electric vehicles (EVs) into sources of backup power as the grids that supply electricity struggle to deal with the extreme weather linked to climate change.
