A week from now, Fort Benning will officially change its name to Fort Moore. Signs are already being switched, including an iconic one this week.

We are moving closer to a monumental change at the U.S. Army post near Columbus. This time next week Fort Benning will be no more. The new name of the installation will be Fort Moore, named for Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and his wife, Julia. Dr. David Kieran, the Hallock Chair of Military History at Columbus State University, can put the name change into perspective. And he's uniquely qualified because he has studied and written about the cultural changes in the U.S. Army.
