Michael Johnstone, 63, succumbed to his injuries at University of Michigan Hospital, the Lansing Fire Department said.

Halim Tran is a certified firefighter, working on-call at DeWitt Township Fire Department and she soon will be a certified EMT.

Lansing Community College hosted Friday their Tech Forward Women in Trade event to encourage more women to join the industry. Women make up less than 10% of skilled trade jobs such as Construction, Auto Tech or even First Responders. Over the years, more women have shown interest in the industry but it’s not enough as some still find themselves in a room full of men.
