The fighting between Sudan's rival armed forces continues to have a devastating impact on civilians and civilian infrastructure across the country. Hundreds of people have reportedly been killed. The fighting has also damaged Sudan's health facilities, and made it difficult for the country's health workers to help those caught in the crosshairs. The World's Africa

Following days of growing tensions, fighting broke out on Saturday between forces of Sudan's military and paramilitary. Residents of the capital Khartoum and other cities have been caught in the middle, and dozens of civilian casualties have been reported. Several days of protests in the Amhara region of Ethiopia turned violent after the federal government announced it would be dismantling the regional security forces across the country. Officials in Amhara have put a curfew in place. Host Marco Werman speaks with The World's Africa correspondent Halima Gikandi in Nairobi. 

This week, a new anthology of films called "African Folktales, Reimagined" premiered on Netflix. The series of short films was done in partnership with UNESCO as an effort to support more emerging filmmakers from across Africa. The World's Halima Gikandi brings us more from Nairobi, Kenya, where the anthology was officially launched.

This week, South Africa announced it would halt the rollout of 1 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine after results from a recent study showed the vaccine wasn't effective against mild and moderate cases of a local COVID-19 variant.
