Hamilton-based poet Karessa McQueen won the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam competition in April. She got back into poetry last year after a long break and won with a final, deeply personal poem about domestic violence.

For Hamilton student Jena Tawfiq, a Grade 10 poetry assignment turned into a process of self discovery and a memorable family experience. She was one of several Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School students who performed poetry at Sounds of the Season.
