On Tuesday, several councilmembers wondered whether it was the right time to be asking voters questions on the transit tax.

Saturday is an event-filled day in Flagstaff, and Mountain Line is going fare-free to make it easy and convenient for residents and visitors to check them all out.

“We invite the Flagstaff community to celebrate Earth Day by ditching their cars and using public transit to attend the celebration and explore town,” said Mountain Line CEO and General

Disagreement over how Flagstaff sees itself, its future and the direction its headed dominated conversations around dinner tables and in the chambers of city hall.

The district is among several local transit providers that have been facing a bus driver shortage in recent years.

Mountain Line received $12.4 million in federal grant funding this week distributed by the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Those routes will continue to operate on a weekend schedule for frequency, but with the weekday span of service.

The change means the routes will start and end at approximately the same time they currently do on weekdays, but buses will not run as often.

If the U.S. federal government does not reach an agreement on spending levels by 12:01 a.m. on Sunday morning, millions of paychecks for government employees will be halted and services

The Mountain Line public bus system will receive a $16.3 million grant to help build a new maintenance facility from the Federal Transit Administration.
