For much of his journalism career, you would never see Sekou Smith in a sport coat. Not at the NBA games he covered, not in the newsroom.
âWearing a tie? No, never happened. Wearing a suit? Oh, you can forget about it,â said Arthur Triche, who used to work in public relations for the Atlanta Hawks and regarded Mr. Smith as his best friend.

Sekou Smith has sadly passed away following a battle with Covid-19, leaving behind his wife and children.
The NBA reporter was recognised by many sporting fans as he starred across various Turner platforms, including as an analyst for NBA TV, a writer for NBA.com and even a host for the Hang Time Podcast.
He first joined Turner Sports in 2009, coming from a writing background covering the Indiana Pacers for the Indianapolis Star and the Atlanta Hawks for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. For over a decade, Sekou Smith was a prominent figure in NBA journalism among both professionals and fans.
