There has been no action taken against any official a year after the SANDF illegally imported drugs from Cuba.

A consignment of an unregistered Covid-19 drug Heberon Alpha R 2B, imported from Cuba by the SANDF, is set to be destroyed.

The South African National Defence Force's (SANDF's) R200-million deal with Cuba that has seen the importation of an unregistered Covid-19 drug appears to be in jeopardy. Health regulators have given military bosses until Friday to provide evidence that the drug has been shipped back to Cuba, or face having it destroyed.

In March, then defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appointed a three-person task team to investigate the SANDF's purchase of unregistered Covid-19 drugs.
