Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has approved a contract for the delivery of 116 M1A1 FEP Abrams main battle tanks to Poland between 2023 and 2024, to accelerate the replacement of equipment aimed at filling in the gaps caused by the transfer of equipment to Ukraine.

The acquisition of M1A1 Abrams MBTs from the US would be co-financed by the US. The funds would come from the financial aid granted to Poland in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Pentagon is scrutinizing the option of a potential acceleration of the sale of the Abrams MBTs to Poland. Accelerated deliveries of newly manufactured MBTs are on the table, along with a transfer of existing examples, until the final variant is available.
