Three South Bay students recently won awards for their creations at a global K-12 invention education.

The Department of Education has awarded the Purple Star since 2018. This year, 189 schools were selected for the honor.

The Harford Civil Rights Project hosted a bus tour of six sites in Harford County that are significant to the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Built in 1922, Hickory Elementary school is celebrating its 100th year in operation this fall. 100 years of good mornings, teacher hugs, and shaping the future of Chesapeake.

Hickory Elementary School first-grade teacher Lauren Byrd said she was “still in shock” days after learning she was named Harford County's 2021 Teacher of the Year in a surprise announcement. “I feel like this year, this is an honor that all teachers deserve," she said.

Kelly Ackley, Kerrie Bauer, Lauren Byrd, Kimberly Perouty and Sarah Scholl are the five finalists for the Harford County Public Schools 2021 Teacher of the Year Award.
