Despite having more closures in 2023 than any previous year, the region’s beer scene still came out of 2023 with more breweries than it had when the year started. 

The region's newest brewery made its debut this week at 21110 Hull Street Road, where it operates in a 10,000-square-foot building with a tap room, dining area, full kitchen and event space.

It's the second local brewery this month to announce its pending closure, following Isley Brewing's exit from Scott's Addition.

Funding is now in place for the creation of the Virginia Beer Distribution Co., which will allow breweries to sell limited amounts of beer directly to retailers and restaurants while bypassing traditional third-party distributors.

Hidden Wit will have a full restaurant and serve six or seven beers at first, then eventually expand to 18 beers on tap.

WayGone Brewery will open in the Canterbury Shopping Center next spring and will be the region’s 47th brewery.
